Coronary Stenting

Author: Webmaster / August 8, 2016 / Categories:

A surgical procedure that involves placing a mesh-like metal tube (called a stent) into an artery of the heart. After the tube is inserted into the artery, a balloon inside the tube inflates, pushing the metal against the artery to widen it.

An individual is recommended to have coronary stenting done after they have undergone angioplasty or another type of treatment where plaque was removed from a coronary artery. A stent can help to hold open a previously blocked artery and allow better blood flow to the heart.
